TITLE

Recommendation to adopt resolution designating the ballot listing of the candidates which have been duly nominated for the City’s Primary Nominating Election on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.  (Districts 2,6,8)

 

DISCUSSION

On October 15, 2019, the City Council adopted Resolution No. RES-19-0159 proclaiming, calling and giving notice of a Primary Nominating Election for the nomination and/or election of candidates for four offices of the Long Beach City Council, Council Districts 2, 4, 6, and 8.

 

The candidate nomination period closed on December 6, 2019, for Council Districts 4, 6, and 8. The candidate nomination period for Council District 2 was extended to December 11, 2019, as directed in Elections Code Section 10225 due to no incumbent filing. The City Clerk is required to submit the attached resolution for adoption pursuant to City Charter Section 1907, which serves to certify the list of candidates who were duly nominated, and identify the order in which their names will appear on the official ballot.

 

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

Approval of the recommended action at this time will allow the Los Angeles Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk to prepare the official ballot, sample ballot, and ballot pamphlet.

 

FISCAL IMPACT

The Office of the City Clerk budget contains the appropriations necessary to conduct the March 3, 2020, Primary Nominating Election.
