TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the Special Advertising and Promotion Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $5,000, offset by $5,000 of Ninth Council District one-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department, to support the 2019 Veterans Day Celebration; and
Decrease appropriations in the Special Advertising and Promotion Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $5,000 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
On October 15,2019, the Long Beach City Council approved the transfer of $15,000 to the Special Advertising and Promotion Fund Group in the City Manager Department to support the 2019 Veterans Day Celebration.
The City Manager's Office of Special Events and Filming will be organizing the annual Veterans Day Celebration on behalf of Council District 9 on November 9, 2019. The Veterans Day Parade is currently in its 23rd year, and the full day's activities have become a well-attended annual event where Long Beach residents and the surrounding community come together to honor the contributions of our local veterans.
This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager, Grace H. Yoon, on November 1, 2019.
Statement of Urgency
The approval of this recommendation is urgent due to the need for staff to coordinate the upcoming event in a timely manner.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation increases appropriation in the Special Advertising and Promotion Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $5,000 for the Office of Special Events and Filming to support the Veterans Day Celebration. This is anticipated to result in minimal impact to staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and minimal impact on City Council priorities.
