TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the Special Advertising and Promotion Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $15,000, offset by $2,500 of Ninth Council District one-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department and $12,500 in sponsorship and contribution funds to support the 2019 Veterans Day Celebration; and
Decrease appropriations in the Special Advertising and Promotion Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $2,500 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.
DISCUSSION
The City Manager's Office of Special Events and Filming will be organizing the annual Veterans Day Celebration on behalf of Council District 9 on November 9, 2019. The Veterans Day Parade is currently in its 23rd year and the full day's activities have become a well-attended annual event that Long Beach residents and the surrounding community come together to honor the contributions of our local veterans.
This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager, Grace H. Yoon, on October 10, 2019.
Statement of Urgency
The approval of this recommendation is urgent due to the need for staff to coordinate the upcoming event in a timely manner.
FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation increases appropriation in the Special Advertising and Promotion Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $15,000 for the Office of Special Events and Filming to organize the Veterans Day Celebration. This event will be funded by a $2,500 sponsorship from the Harbor Department (Port), a $2,500 sponsorship from the Airport Department and $7,500 of anticipated contributions. If these funding contributions are not able to be achieved, the Ninth Council District will supplement any shortage with their remaining Ninth Council District one-time District Priority Funds. Completing this work is anticipated to result in a moderate impact to staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and a moderate impact on City Council priorities.
