TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay sum of $125,000, in full settlement of lawsuit entitled Austin Truong Norman v. City of Long Beach, et al., United States District Court Case No. 2:18-cv-07247-MWF-AFM.

DISCUSSION

Plaintiff alleges that on August 14, 2017, a Long Beach Police officer used excessive force against him and that plaintiff was injured as a result.

Following extensive negotiations, plaintiff agreed to accept $125,000.00- inclusive of attorney's fees and costs - as a full, global settlement of this case.

The settlement was discussed in closed session, and approved, by the Economic Development and Finance Committee on September 17, 2019.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.
