TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute all necessary documents to receive and expend grant funding in the amount of $45,000 from the County of Los Angeles Real Estate Fraud Prosecution Program, for the period of July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020; and
Increase appropriations in the General Grants Fund Group in the Police Department by $45,000, offset by grant revenue. (Citywide)
DISCUSSION
On June 26, 2019, the Long Beach Police Department was awarded grant funding for the eleventh consecutive year from the County of Los Angeles through the Real Estate Fraud Prosecution Program (Real Estate 19) in the amount of $45,000. The grant provides funding for detective overtime hours to manage real estate fraud investigation/prosecution cases, supplies and training.
This matter was reviewed by Principal Deputy City Attorney Gary J. Anderson on August 13, 2019 and Budget Management Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on August 22, 2019.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on September 17, 2019, to expedite the use of grant funds.
FISCAL IMPACT
As this grant is currently unbudgeted, an appropriation increase is requested in the amount of $45,000 in the General Grants Fund Group in the Police Department, offset by grant revenue. The grant does not require any matching funds. This recommendation has no staffing impact beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is consistent with existing City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.
