TITLE
Recommendation to increase appropriations in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1,177, offset by the Third Council District one-time District Priority Funds transferred from the Citywide Activities Department to provide a contribution to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD); and

Decrease appropriations in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department by $1,177 to offset a transfer to the City Manager Department.

DISCUSSION
Every year MADD holds a number of 5K walks and runs in cities throughout the country. In Long Beach their Walk Like MADD event will be held September 14, 2019 starting at the Granada Beach Parking Lot from 9:00 AM to 11 :00 AM. This is MADD's signature fund raising event to help raise awareness and funds to end drunk driving and fight drugged driving. Last year, tens of thousands of people in over 90 cities across the nation participated, and together, MADD was able to raise over 3 million dollars to provide no cost programs and services.

With public safety a major focus as Long Beach seeks to reduce all forms of impaired driving, supporting efforts like these are a benefit to the City and residents of Long Beach.

This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager, Grace H. Yoon, on August 22, 2019.

FISCAL IMPACT
This recommendation requests the City Manager Department to provide a contribution to Mothers Against Drunk Driving to support their Walk Like MADD event. The total appropriation increase in the General Fund Group in the City Manager Department by $1,177 is offset by a decrease of appropriation of Third Council District one-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. Implementing this recommendation is anticipated to result in a minimal impact to staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and a minimal impact on existing City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
