TITLE

Recommendation to increase appropriations in the Capital Projects Fund Group in the Public Works Department by $8,000, offset by a transfer of the Third Council District one-time District Priority Funds from the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department for the installation of a rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon at East 4th Street and Roswell Avenue.

DISCUSSION

Pedestrian safety is a major priority throughout the Third District. There have been requests from the community for additional safety to be added to the intersection of E. 4th Street and Roswell Avenue. With heightened pedestrian volumes frequently occurring at this intersection, due to the proximity to Fremont Elementary School, installing a flashing beacon to improve pedestrian visibility would be a public safety benefit to the community.

This matter was reviewed by Budget Manager, Grace H. Yoon, on August 22, 2019.

FISCAL IMPACT

This recommendation requests the installation of a rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon at E. 4th Street and Roswell Avenue. The appropriation increase in the Capital Projects Fund Group in the Public Works Department by $8,000 will be offset by a transfer of Third Council District one-time District Priority Funds in the General Fund Group in the Citywide Activities Department. Implementing this recommendation is anticipated to result in a minimal impact to staff hours beyond normal budgeted scope of duties and a minimal impact on City Council priorities.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.
