TITLE

Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to amend Contract No. 34395 with Camden Property Trust, of Houston, TX, for the lease of 275 parking spaces, to increase the annual contract amount by $264,000, for a revised contract amount not to exceed $1,014,000.  (District 2)

DISCUSSION

On August 9, 2016, the City Council entered into a contract with Camden Property Trust for the lease of 275 parking spaces at the Camden Garage, located across the street from City Hall.

To accommodate construction activity associated with the new Civic Center Project, it has been necessary to close access to the Lincoln Garage since the fall of 2016.  The closure allows for construction of the new Main Library, Lincoln Park, and seismic upgrades.  The closure requires relocation of City staff who previously parked in the Lincoln Garage.  The increase in contract authority is requested to cover a $5.00 annual increase per space for a total of $80.00 per space per month.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Amy R. Webber on July 22, 2019,  Purchasing Agent Tara Yeats on August 6, 2019, and by Budget Analysis Officer Julissa José-Murray on August 13, 2019.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS

City Council action is requested on September 3, 2019, to allow for the timely execution of the revised parking agreement.

FISCAL IMPACT

The requested action increases the contract authority by $264,000, for a revised total contract amount not to exceed, $1,014,000.  Sufficient funds to support the increased authority are budgeted in the Civic Center Fund Group in the Public Works Department.  This recommendation has no staffing impact beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is consistent with existing City Council priorities.  There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.
