DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to award a contract to American Landscape, Inc., for the Stearns Park Irrigation Upgrade Project (Project). The Project is designed to increase irrigation efficiency by replacing irrigation mainlines, some lateral irrigation lines and sprinkler heads, and upgrade irrigation pumps. These changes are expected to reduce future maintenance and water usage. Additionally, while most of the park is irrigated with reclaimed water, about 3.8 acres in the northeast corner of the park is irrigated with potable water that will be converted. Conversion of that portion of the park from potable to reclaimed water, in addition to an irrigation upgrade, would reduce water costs.

The Request for Proposals (RFP) was advertised in the Long Beach Press-Telegram on November 2, 2018, and 63 potential proposers specializing in irrigation services were notified of the RFP opportunity. Of those proposers, 56 downloaded the RFP via the City’s electronic bid system. The RFP document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the seventh floor of City Hall, and the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing. The RFP announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 28 local, minority, and women-owned business groups.
