TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute a donation agreement with Beacon for Him, a local nonprofit organization, for donation of a 2006 Ford F-350 truck, formerly used by the Public Works Department Street Maintenance Division, with an estimated value of $2,750, for transportation of homeless individuals and families to local shelters and hotels. (Citywide)

DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to execute a donation agreement with Beacon for Him to provide a used Ford F-350 truck for their homeless transportation program. This unit has already been replaced and would normally be sent to auction.

The City of Long Beach Health and Human Services Department, Fleet Services Bureau in the Financial Management Department, Police Department, Fire Department, and other local agencies have been working together to provide outreach and stabilization services for homeless individuals and families. Beacon for Him currently provides transportation to local shelters for this underserved population with liability insurance for transporting. This vehicle donation would allow them to expand their service area in Long Beach.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Taylor M. Anderson on March 29, 2019, and by Budget Management Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on April 24, 2019.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on May 14, 2019, to ensure the donation of the Ford truck can take place expeditiously.

FISCAL IMPACT
This vehicle has a re-sale value of approximately $2,750. If this unit were sold at auction, the salvage revenue would accrue to the Fleet Services Fund Group in the Financial Management Department (22). Executing the donation agreement is not expected to require additional staff hours beyond the normal budgeted scope of duties and is consistent with existing City Council priorities. There is no local job impact associated with this recommendation.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
