DISCUSSION
Following the great success of previous swim programs at City of Long Beach (City) pools, City Council approval is now requested to enter into two Reimbursement Agreements with the LBUSD. The first agreement is to allow the LBFD to expand the Junior Lifeguard Preparatory Course currently operating out of Silverado Pool into Cabrillo and Jordan High Schools. This course prepares prospective Junior Lifeguards to successfully meet the minimum swimming standards that allow for full participation in the summer Junior Lifeguard Program (JG Program), known throughout the community as the Junior Guard Program, for ages 9 to 17. The second agreement is to cover the tuition for LBUSD students to participate in the JG Program. The JG Program has been operating since 1967 and has historically prepared participants for careers in public safety.
