DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Civic Construction Associates for the Monument Sign Project (Project) at the Long Beach Airport (Airport). Currently, two existing signs mark the primary entrance into the Airport. The signs are located at the northwest and southwest corners of the Lakewood Boulevard and East Wardlow Road intersection. The primary goal of the Project is to improve the appearance of the entrance to the Airport by replacing the outdated, existing signs with a new and illuminated monument sign that embodies the updated Airport brand. The Project is also in support of the larger Airport modernization program of which the Phase II Terminal Area Improvements is the centerpiece. The monument sign will be located at the northwest corner of the Airport entrance. The Project also includes reconstruction of the landscaped areas at both corners and the addition of new LED light fixtures to illuminate the improved entrance area. The bid was advertised in the Long Beach Press-Telegram October 11, 2018, and 5,123 potential bidders specializing in construction services were notified of the bid opportunity.
