DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with ABM Industry Group, LLC, for custodial services. The City has been contracting for custodial services in the private sector since 1998. There are currently more than 67 buildings operated by the following departments that are maintained by contracted services: Library Services, Parks, Recreation and Marine, Fire, Energy Resources, Health and Human Services, Public Works, Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Communications, and Technology and Innovation. None of these buildings are maintained by City staff, and no staff will be affected by the new contract.

The bid was advertised in the Long Beach Press-Telegram on June 1, 2018, and 1,051 potential bidders specializing in custodial/janitorial services were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those bidders, 40 downloaded the bid via the City’s electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the seventh floor of City Hall, and the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing. A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 22 local, minority, and women-owned business groups.
