DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into contracts with multiple consulting firms to assist with the City of Long Beach’s (City) historic preservation efforts. Services will include technical, architectural, design, historical guidance, and research.

The City maintains a strong commitment to the preservation of its historic structures, heritage, and cultural resources. This commitment is carried out by the Department of Development Services’ (Department) historic preservation initiatives and programs, such as the adaptive reuse guidelines, Mills Act Property Tax Abatement Program (Mills Act), Historic District Design Guidelines, and community outreach and engagement activities.

The Department assists property owners with the technical aspects of preservation, renovation, rehabilitation, and reuse of historic sites. The Department also works with the community to promote an understanding and appreciation of the City’s significant architectural, environmental, cultural history, and resources.
