Appointments
Dianne McNinch - CD 1- First Term, effective July 2018 through June 2020
Dianne McNinch is a CD 1 resident and a long-time community leader with the Long Beach Area
Chamber of Commerce, Port of Long Beach, Long Beach Airport, and many other local
organizations. She has been nominated for Woman of the Year by the California State Assembly
and was awarded Woman of Distinction by Fullerton Junior College. Dianne was formerly a
member of the Community Development Commission and is excited to once again serve the City
as a commissioner.
Veronica Garcia - CD 5 - First Term, effective July 2018 through June 2020
A 5th District resident interested in serving the city, Veronica Garcia is Executive Director of the
American Red Cross, San Gabriel Pomona Valley Chapter, and has more than twenty years of
experience in nonprofit administration. She is also a former President and current board member
of Leadership Long Beach, past board member of the Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership and Long
Beach Rotary Club, and founding member of the National Latina Alliance and United Latino Fund.
Maria Norvell- CD 7 - First Term, effective July 2018 through June 2020
Maria Norvell is a 7th District resident who has long been engaged with public safety in our
community. She served for ten years on the Public Safety Commission and participated in the
Police Chiefs Advisory Group for Neighborhood Watch from 1989 to 2010. Maria is very
interested in issues related to local law enforcement and is excited to continuing serving the City
on the Citizen Police Complaint Commission.
Dr. Joni Ricks-Oddie - CD 9 - First Term, effective July 2018 through June 2020
Dr. Joni Ricks-Oddie is a CD 9 resident and holds a Doctorate in Epidemiology from UCLA. She
is currently Director of the Center for Statistical Consulting at the University of California, Irvine,
and is actively engaged in the Long Beach community as Vice President of the DeForest Park
Neighborhood Association, executive board member of the Long Beach Area Sierra Club and
community lead for the North Long Beach Veterans Day Committee.
Dana Buchanan -At-Large- Interim Term, effective July 2018 through June 2019 (to fill Vacancy
left by Miles Nevin's resignation)
Dana Buchanan is a CD 3 resident and a business owner who has been recognized for her active
involvement in the Long Beach community. Dana is a board member for the California Conference
for Equality and Justice, where she helps support restorative justice initiatives, and has been
involved in a number of local organizations including the Long Beach Rotary, Leadership Long
Beach, and Friends of Pathways, among many others.

Heather Morrison (CD 8) - First Term, effective July 2018 through June 2022
Heather Morrison is a resident of District 8 and a former Communications Deputy in
Councilmember Al Austin's office. While she completes her teaching credential in Special
Education at Long Beach State University, Heather volunteers at both Jordan and Cabrillo High
Schools. She recently completed six years on the Bond Oversight Committee for the Measure K
and Measure E bonds for Long Beach Unified School District.
Susana Gonzalez Edmond (CD 5) - First Term, effective July 2018 through June 2022
Susana Gonzalez Edmond is a CD 5 resident with over fifteen years of experience working in the
public and private sectors, including as a former Long Beach City Council Chief of Staff. She is
currently a Government Relations Consultant with Ek, Sunkin, Klink & Bai. Susana has served on
several boards and holds a Master of Public Policy and Administration from Long Beach State
University.
Megan Kerr (CD 8) - Interim Term, effective July 2018 through June 2019 (to fill Vacancy left by
Ricky McGilton-McGlamery'S resignation)
As a CD 8 resident and President of the Board of Education for Long Beach Unified School District,
Megan Kerr is actively involved in the Long Beach community. She also serves on the Commission
on Youth & Children and is interested in helping our city continue to grow and thrive. Megan is a
graduate of Long Beach City College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from
Cal Poly Pomona.
Parks & Recreation Commission
Appointment
Mariela Salgado (CD 1) - First Term, effective July 2018 through June 2022
Mariela Salgado is a resident of the 1st District and a business owner in the 5th District, where she
operates a family-owned carpet cleaning company. Mariela holds a Master's Degree in Business
Administration from Pepperdine University and is an advocate for Long Beach youth and our
community through her volunteer work with the Willmore City Heritage Association, Alpert Jewish
Community Center, and other organizations.
