DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to authorize the City Manager to execute amendments to the interim purchase orders (PO) with Pedal Movement, LLC (Pedal Movement), for maintenance and operation of the Bike Share Program and Bike Station at 223 East 1st Street. Pedal Movement is currently providing services under two interim purchase orders totaling $167,000.

In January 2016, the City engaged Pedal Movement for Bike Station operation. Operation of the Bike Station includes storage, repair, and rental of bicycles and electric scooters, as well as the sale of food and other small items at the station. Pedal Movement conducts bike valet parking to serve City-sponsored special events and coordinates community bicycle rides to support the City’s efforts in developing a bikeable Long Beach. A Request for Proposals (RFP) for these services is expected to be issued in the coming months.

In August 2017, additional services were provided by Pedal Movement to assist with delivery of services related to the City’s Bike Share program. To ensure service continuity until a new contract is in place, it is requested that the interim purchase orders be extended to September 30, 2018, with an increase in additional purchasing authority by $115,000 for a combined amount not to exceed $282,000.
