TITLE

Recommendation to request City Manager to begin the review and approval process for the renaming of Ximeno Avenue between 7th Street and 10th Street as Bruin Way in honor of Wilson High School.

DISCUSSION

Wilson High School has been a cornerstone of Long Beach for nearly a century. Since 1926 its students and graduates have shaped Long Beach and have gone on to have an impact across the globe. Wilson High School has continually distinguished itself as a top high school in the nation for its strong academic record, not to mention its athletic history with 63 CIF Championships, 394 Moore League Championships, and has had an Olympian in every Summer Olympics since 1952. In recognition of Wilson High School and its important positive role in the city, Ximeno Avenue from 7th Street to 10th Street should be changed to Bruin Way.
