TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file the 2017 National Voter Registration Day report.
DISCUSSION
National Voter Registration Day is a national holiday first observed in 2012. It is held on the fourth Tuesday of September and has been endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State, and supported by the National Association of State Election Directors. National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan event aimed at registering as many eligible voters as possible. Every year thousands of events are organized nationwide!
On Tuesday, September 26, 2017 the Office of the City Clerk hosted its 2017 National Voter Registration Day event at the Long Beach City College Liberal Arts Campus from 10 AM to 3 PM. This event was a collaborative effort with their Associated Student Body and LBCC staff. It was officially advertised by the ASB to all LBCC students one week prior to the event. The Office of the City Clerk sponsored a snow cone station that the ASB operated. All students were encouraged to register to vote and check their voter registration status in exchange for a refreshing snow cone.
In addition to the event at Liberal Arts Campus, the LBCC ASB held its own 2017 National Voter Registration Day event at the Pacific Coast Campus from 3 PM to 5 PM. They provided students with coffee and cookies.
