DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested for the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) to enter into an agreement with Long Beach Public Transportation Company (Long Beach Transit), to provide law enforcement and security services. Long Beach Transit has contracted with the City for law enforcement services since 1993, with the latest agreement expiring September 30, 2017. Long Beach Transit has requested the continuation of law enforcement and security services under a new contract. A new agreement has been negotiated for the of term of October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018, with the option to renew for three additional one-year periods.

The major terms and conditions of the new agreement will include Long Beach Transit’s 100 percent reimbursement to LBPD for personnel straight time and benefits, overtime, fleet, and technology, as well as indirect costs. City personnel includes Police Sergeants and Police Officers to provide law enforcement and security services.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Monica J. Kilaita on September 20, 2017 and by Budget Management Officer Rhutu Amin Gharib on September 20, 2017.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on October 10, 2017, to ensure the agreement is in place expeditiously.

FISCAL IMPACT
