TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to accept an easement deed from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Education and Welfare Corporation, a California corporation, the owner of the property located at 854 East 6th Street, for sidewalk-widening purposes and for realignment of the East 6th Street and Alamitos Avenue intersection; and

DISCUSSION
It is the goal of the Public Works Department to widen streets to meet the standards established in the City’s General Plan. When a new development is proposed, the public rights-of-ways adjacent to the site are reviewed for sufficiency to accommodate the new development. For the property at 854 East 6th Street, impacted by the development of Gumbiner Park, the dedication of existing sidewalk width is recommended (Exhibit A). The existing sidewalk width at the southwest corner of the East 6th Street and Alamitos Avenue intersection should be curtailed for street widening purposes, resulting in approximately 39 feet of street width, to accommodate for realignment of said intersection per the Right-Of-Way Exchange Agreement, made between the property owner and the City.

City staff conducted a review involving public utilities and interested City departments, and there were no objections to the proposed dedication of right-of-way. In conformance with the California Environmental Quality Act, Categorical Exemption Nos. CE-45-12 and CE-34-13, were respectively issued on January 4, 2013 and October 29, 2013, for this project (Exhibits B and C).

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Linda T. Vu on July 6, 2017 and by Budget Analysis Officer Julissa José-Murray on July 13, 2017.
