TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager, or designee, to execute all documents necessary to amend Agreement No. 33814 with Medex Healthcare, Inc. for Workers’ Compensation Medical Provider Network services, to increase the contract by $360,000 for a revised total amount not to exceed $560,000, and to extend the term for an additional two-year period through December 31, 2019. DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to increase Agreement No. 33814 with Medex Healthcare, Inc. (Medex) by $360,000, for a total amount not to exceed $560,000, and to extend the contract for an additional two years for a total 5-year period from January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2019. This approval will allow for continuation of Workers’ Compensation Medical Provider Network (MPN) services.

On January 1, 2015, after completing a competitive bid process (RFP LW14-063), Agreement No. 33814 was entered into with Medex for an amount not to exceed $200,000, for a period of two years from January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2016 with the option to renew for three additional one-year periods. A First Amendment was executed to extend the contract for an additional one-year period ending on December 31, 2017.

The City utilized Agreement No. 33814 for the development, management, and maintenance of an MPN. The MPN provides a network of medical providers, easily accessible to the City’s industrially injured workers. The network conforms to the rules and regulations as outlined by the State of California and is a combination of Primary Care Physicians, as well as specialists to provide an adequate level of medical care services to City of Long Beach employees. The MPN also provides the City with control of the medical care necessary to treat injured employees and to maximize the savings available. The network will provide the expert medical services needed to insure that the best care is available to injured workers.
