TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute a Public Walkways Occupancy Permit for sidewalk dining at Wokcano Restaurant and Bar located at 199 The Promenade North.  (District 2)

DISCUSSION
Volcano Grill Inc, the operator of Wokcano Restaurant and Bar located at 199 The Promenade North, requests a permit to temporarily occupy part of the adjoining sidewalk for the purpose of sidewalk dining. The proposed permit area and a list of furnishings and accessories to be placed in the permit area are shown on the attached Exhibit A. Approval of this permit is based on the conditions and standards of Chapter 14.14 of the Long Beach Municipal Code which describes temporary uses of public right-of-way. The width of The Promenade is 80 feet, and the central twenty-two feet of this pedestrian-only way provides the main pedestrian path. This permit area was designed to be used for sidewalk dining in the Redevelopment Agency's Promenade renovation plans.

The Long Beach Fire Department reviewed and approved this request on December 10, 2008. Deputy City Attorney Linda Trang prepared the subject permit on November 18, 2008.
