TITLE

DISCUSSION
As the proposed update to the Land Use Element states: the recent and severe economic recession, new legislative mandates and fluctuating weather patterns, along with community input have served as driving forces to create a vision for Long Beach. Planners have brought forward to the Planning Commission and at a later date will bring to the Long Beach City Council this updated element in order to adopt changes based on the needs and trends occurring in the City. Long Beach is, once again, a city in transition; reinventing itself in a new global economy.

Despite many efforts, public comment periods, and community meetings: many community residents have expressed that their voices have not been heard or considered. Many residents may be completely unaware of the Land Use Element.

The allocation of these funds will assist in hiring a part-time staff member who would go door to door to stakeholders ranging from: property owners, business owners, tenants, and community groups and survey for what is proposed, wanted, needed, and lacking from the Land Use Element in the Sixth District. The goal is to provide additional comments and recommendations that can be useful and reflective of community input prior to bringing the element forward for final approval.
