TITLE
Recommendation to adopt Specifications No. ITB LB-16-029 and award a contract to Safeway Sign Company, of Adelanto, CA, to furnish and deliver traffic and custom signs, poles, and related supplies, in an annual amount not to exceed $1,237,000, for a period of two years, with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods, at the discretion of the City Manager. DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with Safeway Sign Company to furnish and deliver traffic signs, custom signs, poles, and related supplies for the Departments of Public Works and Parks, Recreation and Marine. The requested award of this contract will ensure the availability of, and continued support for, ongoing sign maintenance, placement and replacement throughout the City.
The bid was advertised in the Long Beach Press-Telegram on January 15, 2016, and 7,862 potential bidders specializing in signs and equipment were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those bidders, 54 downloaded the bid via the City’s electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the seventh floor of City Hall, and the Division’s website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing
. A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 22 local, minority, and women-owned business groups. Three bids were received on June 3, 2016. Of those three bidders, one was a Minority-owned Business Enterprise (MBE), none were Women-owned Business Enterprises (WBEs), one was a certified Small Business Enterprise (SBE), and none were Long Beach businesses (Locals). Safeway Sign Company, of Adelanto, CA, is the lowest responsible bidder.
