TITLE

Recommendation to request City Attorney to prepare an ordinance amending the Long Beach Municipal Code, Section 16.08.266, related to the dimensions of Dock 10 in Long Beach Shoreline Marina after the rebuild and expansion in 2014.  (District 2)

DISCUSSION

During the summer of 2014, a City of Long Beach (City) property located at 435 Shoreline Village Drive, commonly referred to as Dock 10, was rebuilt.  The project involved replacing an existing deteriorated timber dock system with a new and improved concrete dock system, including a new ADA accessible gangway.  The project was part of the City's Tidelands Capital Improvement Program, which helped increase the availability of public dock space at Rainbow Harbor Marina and Shoreline Village by replacing the existing dock with a new 512-foot concrete dock.  The new concrete dock included new lighting, emergency fire and water access, an emergency phone, a new gangway landing and guardrails, and three sewage pump-out stations.

The Long Beach Municipal Code (LBMC), Section 16.08.266, relates to Dock 10 and its dimensions.  The dimensions of the dock were changed during the rebuild project and the LBMC needs to be updated accordingly.  The dimensions of the dock have increased from 300’ to 512’.  There were increases to both the westerly direction (from 150’ to 161’), and the southerly direction (from 150’ to 351’).  The width of the new concrete dock is 15’.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Robin Zur Schmiede and by Budget Operations Administrator Grace Yoon on May 24, 2016.
