TITLE

Recommendation to receive and file a report from Long Beach Water Department regarding the excellent quality and safety of the drinking water in Long Beach and to assure the citizens of Long Beach that various factors that caused the lead contamination crisis in Flint, Michigan do not exist in our city.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION

In the past year, there has been extensive national media coverage of the crisis situation in Flint, Michigan whereby several factors resulted in lead contamination in the city's drinking water, causing lead poisoning in thousands of Flint's residents, primarily in children and the elderly.

Council member Roberto Uranga reached out to the Long Beach Water Department (LBWD) to request that a report be given to the City Council to provide information on the factors that caused the Flint crisis and how LBWD expertly treats its water supplies to ensure the quality and safety of our local drinking water.
