TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on travel to the Conference of Mayors Environmental Action Conference in Miami, Florida,
October 1 - 3, 2008.

DISCUSSION
From October 1 to October 3 I traveled to Miami, Florida to participate in the US Conference of Mayors Environmental Action Summit.  I was recently appointed to chair the Environmental Committee of the Conference of Mayors, and this is the first environmental summit hosted by the Conference since I assumed chair of the committee.

At the event I met with leaders of other municipalities to discuss issues affecting local government related to environmental initiatives, and what local government can do to reduce its carbon footprint.  The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more.

At the conference, a variety of topics were discussed, including:  Climate Protection, Green Jobs, Community Development, Housing, Energy, and Transportation.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
None.

FISCAL IMPACT
None.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

Mayor Bob Foster
