TITLE

Recommendation to appoint the Deputy Director of Public Works/City Engineer, Sean Crumby, as the authorized Alternate Member to the Los Angeles Gateway Region Integrated Regional Water Management Joint Powers Authority; and authorize City Manager to designate, in writing, a representative if neither the Member nor the Alternate Member is available.  (Citywide)

DISCUSSION

In 2007, the Gateway Council of Governments agreed to the formation of a Los Angeles Gateway Region Integrated Regional Water Management Joint Powers Authority (Authority) for the purpose of pursuing grant funding related to the water quality projects being made available at the state and national level.  The City of Long Beach (City) has been an active participant since the formation of the Authority.  Currently the appointed designated member for the City is Anthony Arevalo, Storm Water/Environmental Compliance Officer.  Derek Wieske, Assistant City Engineer, is the appointed alternate member.  Recently, Mr. Wieske resigned his position with the City effective February 19, 2016.  It is recommended that Mr. Sean Crumby, Deputy Director of Public Works/City Engineer, be appointed as the authorized alternate member.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Amy R. Webber on February 22, 2016 and by Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on March 4, 2016.

The Authority provides a valuable means for the City to pursue water quality related grant funding.
