TITLE
Recommendation to request City Attorney to draft a resolution in support of declaring March 11, 2016 as the 25th Annual Latina History Day and congratulate Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE), for their service to the Latinas in the City of Long Beach.
DISCUSSION
Councilwoman Lena Gonzalez (HOPE Class of 2013), Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal and Council member Roberto Uranga would like to proclaim March 11, 2016 Latina History Day at Long Beach City Hall.
The resolution of Latina History Day during "Women's History Month" memorializes the important role Latinas play in American society. Latinas are breaking barriers and becoming pioneering in their respective industries. Today, Latinas are leaders in business, politics, and education and hold high level positions in local, state and federal governments. Latina History Day recognizes the hard work and sacrifices of our mothers and grandmothers, celebrates contemporary Latinas, and builds the foundation for future generations. This resolution will keep with the 24 year tradition of celebrating Latina History Day.
