TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager to provide the City Council with an update regarding where the City is at with the Request for Proposals process for consulting services related to updating the City's gateway signage program.
DISCUSSION
At the April 21, 2015 City Council meeting, at the request of Mayor Garcia the City Council directed the City Manager to study the signage at major entrances and gateways to the City and report back with recommendations for enhancements.
On August 10, 2015 in a memorandum from City Manager Pat West staff completed an inventory of existing gateway signs, documenting that signage exists at 20 locations in the City and that several opportunities for new or enhanced signage throughout the City are present.
The first step in updating the City's gateway signage would be through a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a consultant to provide design and site planning services. Additionally, I concurred with staff's assessment that the study should have three different components: gateway signage, beach signage, and downtown parking signage and that the consultant should evaluate the City's multiple slogans and offer recommendations on how to incorporate them into the new plan.
