TITLE

Recommendation to receive and file City of Long Beach Climate Resiliency Assessment Report from the Aquarium of the Pacific.

DISCUSSION

Just over a year ago, the Mayor's office requested the Aquarium of the Pacific prepare a climate change resiliency report for Long Beach, assessing the City's ability to adapt to climate change, and outlining potential policies and practices that can enhance climate resiliency. The Aquarium assembled experts in the fields of climatology and environmental science to study the most likely impacts of climate change in Long Beach, and what the City can do to adapt. Their report is now complete and ready to be presented to Council and made available to the public. Last fall, the City of Long Beach joined the Mayors' Compact for Climate Change, and last month, the United States joined 195 other nations in producing the Paris Agreement. As the City of Long Beach works to meet its climate resiliency goals and adapt to an already changing climate, the report from the Aquarium will inform and support the City's ongoing efforts.

FISCAL IMPACT

None.

SUGGESTED ACTION

Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,

MAYOR ROBERT GARCIA
