TITLE

Recommendation to request City Council to approve the appointment of the 9th District representative, John Shelton, to the Compton Creek Mosquito Abatement District Board of Trustees.

DISCUSSION

The Compton Creek Mosquito Abatement District is an independent special district committed to protecting the public's health, safety and welfare from mosquito-borne diseases. The District includes the City of Compton, North Long Beach, and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County adjacent to the District including the communities of East Rancho Dominguez, Enterprise, Mona Park, Rosewood, West Rancho Dominguez and Willowbrook, and protects close to 100,000 citizens. It is funded through tax dollars, and provides free mosquito abatement services and all of the other related items involved in mosquito control.

The City of Long Beach has one North Long Beach 9th District appointment to the District's Board of Trustees that is currently open. I am recommending the appointment of 9th District resident John Shelton.
