DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into a contract with JAG Architects, Inc., for Architectural and Engineering Services for the Lifeguard Headquarters Rehabilitation and Junior Lifeguard Facility Rebuild Projects.

The Lifeguard Headquarters facility, which was originally constructed in the 1930's, and the Junior Lifeguard building (Projects) are in need of improvements. The Lifeguard Headquarters facility is located at the west end of the Junipero Avenue parking lot and provides a wide range of functions, including dispatching, emergency response, treating minor injuries, and training. This facility is also the communication center for the Fire Department's Marine Safety Division. The layout and size of this facility is inadequate to provide present-day needs for public safety services along the coast, and the facility is in need of renovation. The Junior Lifeguard building located on the south side of 55th Place was originally designed to house two lifeguards during the summer season. Currently, this small building is used as the Junior Lifeguard training facility each summer and houses up to 10 instructors for training 500 junior lifeguards. This building is in dire need of replacement.
