TITLE
Recommendation to approve the expenditure of $25,000 as a reward for information helping to solve the murder of Long Beach Police Officer Franke Lewis.
DISCUSSION
On December 13, 1975, Long Beach Police Officer Franke Lewis was shot to death while attempting to rescue someone who was being attacked. Officer Lewis' murder remains unsolved.
Recent new information has come to light that had led the Long Beach Police Department to intensify efforts at solving this despicable crime, including the offer of a $50,000 reward, funded by the Long Beach Police Officers Association, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the Fraternal Order of Police.
It is appropriate for the City to also contribute to this award.
FISCAL IMPACT
$25,000, drawn from a fund to be identified by the City Manager.
