TITLE

Recommendation to receive and file a list of the recommendations compiled from the Medical Cannabis Task Force.

DISCUSSION

The Task Force was created for the purpose of providing the City Council with further input and recommendations for the establishment of a medical cannabis ordinance within the City of Long Beach.

On Tuesday, February 10, 2015, the City Council requested the City Attorney to prepare a resolution by February 17, 2015, establishing a Medical Cannabis Task Force with 18 members.

Each City Council representative was asked to appoint 2 members by February 24, 2015; however, a majority of the task force members were not appointed and fully processed until April of 2015.

The City Council also requested that the resolution include the task force to bring to the council a presentation in April of 2015, but the composition of the task force was incomplete. The Task Force has since met eight (8) times since April 1, 2015 and has compiled a list of recommendations for Council review and consideration.

The Task Force was not intended or created to go on indefinitely and there has been increased interest in expediting the reporting out of the recommendations for the purpose of creating a model ordinance.
