TITLE

Recommendation to request City Manager to convene a 12 member Queen Mary Land Development Task Force, appointed by the Mayor, including downtown residents as well as experts in tourism and hospitality, design and architecture, and historic preservation.

DISCUSSION

The Queen Mary is one of Long Beach's greatest assets, attracting thousands of visitors every year and providing an iconic element of the Long Beach skyline and coast. The city, working with the ship's operator, Garrison Investments, is ready to formulate a comprehensive plan for the development of the surrounding properties.

In order to develop the optimal approach to reimagining the land around the Queen Mary and its place in our city's economic and cultural life, the involvement ofthe community is vital. An advisory task force, with 12 members appointed by the Mayor, will provide critical feedback and perspective to the Mayor, City Council, city staff and the ship's operators, and help develop appropriate recommendations for moving forward with this important development process.
