TITLE
Recommendation to determine that the granting of Facility/Pipeline Permit Supplement No. S-5-15, under existing Facility/Pipeline Permit No. P-11-50, to the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, will not be contrary to the public interest; and authorize City Manager, or designee, to issue said permit supplement in accordance with Section 15.44.060, of the Long Beach Municipal Code, for the installation of an electrical cabinet and conduits for data transmission for the Los Angeles County Alamitos Seawater Barrier Project Telemetry System. (District 3)

DISCUSSION
The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works (County) has filed an application for Facility/Pipeline Permit Supplement No. S-5-15, under existing Facility/Pipeline Permit No. P-11-50, to install an electrical cabinet and 50 feet of conduits to be used for monitoring groundwater levels and injection rates for the wells associated with the County’s Alamitos Seawater Barrier Project Telemetry System. This installation will enable the County to more efficiently use water injection to keep seawater away from the underground drinking water supply.

At the request of the surrounding property owners, the County will construct a decorative housing for the proposed cabinet, which will be located on the south parkway of 6th Street between 6230 and 6234 6th Street. Approximately 50 feet of conduit will be installed westerly from the cabinet to an existing pull box in 6th Street. The location of the cabinet and the routing of the conduits are shown on the attached map.

The City of Long Beach, Public Works Department (PW) has reviewed the application and found the proposed cabinet and conduits to be compatible with existing installations and not an obstacle to any street use or any known proposed developments.
