TITLE
Recommendation to request City Manager to investigate the feasibility of bringing the USS RANGER (CV-61) Super Carrier to the City of Long Beach and report back to City Council and direct City Attorney to prepare a resolution stating the City of Long Beach has an interest in the USS Ranger (CV-61) Super Carrier.

DISCUSSION
The nonprofit group "Top Gun Supercarrier of Long Beach Inc." would like to work and collaborate with the City of Long Beach in an effort to secure a pier and a permanent "home port" for the USS Ranger. Their mission is to celebrate the human spirit through the preservation and interpretation of the USS RANGER, to educate the public on the accomplishments and sacrifices of veterans, and to engage the public in unique and exciting ways that bring the USS Ranger to life by providing the people of Long Beach a valuable community resource. The nonprofit will cover all costs to manage and operate the vessel. No general funds will be used for this project.

Currently, the USS Ranger is scheduled for disbanding at the Naval Sea Systems. To place disbanding on hold, while the City conducts its feasibility study, requires a resolution stating that the City of Long Beach is interested in pursuing the opportunity of establishing the USS Ranger as a City landmark and preserving USS Ranger as a museum, memorial and community center. The resolution should request that the Naval Sea Systems Command, place the USS Ranger back on donation hold status while the City of Long Beach, in partnership with Top Gun Supercarrier of Long Beach Inc., prepares an application to the Navy for the USS Ranger to be donated to the City of Long Beach in the care of the Top Gun Supercarrier of Long Beach Inc.
