DISCUSSION
City Council approval is requested to enter into an annual contract with R & S Overhead Doors of South Bay, Inc., for as-needed electric door and rolling gate maintenance, repair services and parts at various City facilities, many of which provide emergency services that require vehicles to enter or leave facilities at all times. The ongoing functionality of these doors is critical to the provision of site safety and security for City operations. This contract provides a response within 60 minutes of a service call being placed. Departments participating in this contract include Long Beach Airport, Fire, Harbor, Fleet Services, Harbor, Library, Parks, Recreation, and Marine, Police, Public Works, and Water. There are approximately 200 doors and gates at multiple locations throughout the City.

The bid was advertised in the Press-Telegram on July 13, 2014, and 3,282 potential bidders specializing in electric door and rolling gate maintenance, parts, and services were notified of the bid opportunity. Of those bidders, 27 downloaded the bid via our electronic bid system. The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division, located on the seventh floor of City Hall, and the Division's website at www.longbeach.gov/purchasing. A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division's weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 30 local, minority and women-owned business groups.
