(District 2)
DISCUSSION
During a severe storm in the winter of 2005, a large tree fell on the historic band shell in Bixby Park, rendering it unsafe and unusable. Repairs are currently underway and are expected to cost approximately $340,000. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing $52,250 for repair of the band shell. Additional funding for the project includes California Proposition 12 Per Capita funds, park impact fees, unspent funds from a number of completed projects, and the City's Insurance Fund.
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Gary J. Anderson on March 26, 2008, and Budget Management Officer Victoria Bell on April 7, 2008.
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on April 15, 2008, to enable timely completion of the band shell reconstruction project.
FISCAL IMPACT
Approval of the recommendation will increase revenue and appropriations in the Capital Projects Fund (CP) in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PR) by $52,250.
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
Respectfully Submitted,
Phil T. Hester
