DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract for the purchase of one (1) aerial lift truck for the Public Works, Street Maintenance, Street Tree Division.

The Public Works, Street Maintenance, Street Tree Division is currently utilizing one small aerial lift truck that is now past its useful life and is creating excessive inefficiencies. The current aerial lift truck to be replaced is 11 years old and was originally on a scheduled nine year life cycle. This aerial lift truck is part of the FY 08 replacement plan, as approved by the Fleet Review Committee.

The new aerial lift will be mounted on a Ford F-550 chassis with a gasoline powered engine rather than diesel, which will meet AQMD requirements for this classification. The possibility of other alternative fuel options was researched and found not to be a viable option for this configuration and usage.

The City Charter provides an alternative procurement method by permitting the City to purchase or otherwise obtain services, supplies, materials, equipment and labor with other governmental agencies by purchasing under their contracts on a voluntary and selective basis when authorized by a Resolution of the City Council.

The Department of Public Works, Fleet Services Bureau, investigated procurement options and learned that the City of Corona had completed a competitive bid process for aerial lift trucks and has a contract with M&M Lifts, Inc., that meets the City's needs.
