TITLE
Recommendation to receive supporting documentation into the record, conclude the hearing and grant the Permit, with or without conditions, or deny the Permit on the application of Long Beach Police Athletic League, for a one year boxing/wrestling/karate permit, at 1401 W. 9th Street. (District 1)
DISCUSSION
Pursuant to Long Beach Municipal Code (L.B.M.C.) Chapter 5.24, no person shall operate any professional or amateur boxing/wrestling contests or exhibitions in the City without first having made an application to, and received a permit from, the City Council to do so. The written application shall set forth the exact location and manner in which the contests or exhibitions are to be conducted, the names and addresses of all businesses and persons connected with the contests or exhibitions management, whether the contests or exhibitions are professional or amateur in nature, and the amount of admission to be charged, if any.
All such applications shall be presented to the City Council. If the City Council finds that the conduct of the business will comport with public health, safety, morals and welfare, it may authorize the Director of Financial Management to issue the permit.
The proposed boxing, wrestling and karate events will be held in conjunction with the Youth After School Program, provided at 1401 W. 9th Street, and are scheduled Monday through Sunday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11 :00 p.m. Admission for the events is $5.00 per person.
Attached for your review is the application for the Long Beach Police Athletic League, along with various departmental reports. The following information summarizes their findings:
