TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Manager to execute an agreement, and any subsequent amendments, in the amount of $346,743 for a period of one year, with the County of Los Angeles to provide alcohol and drug abuse rehabilitation services. (Citywide)

DISCUSSION
Since 1967, the City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department), Human and Social Services Bureau, has provided alcohol and drug treatment and recovery services under contact with the County of Los Angeles.
CalWORKS and Proposition 36 programs provide crisis intervention, education, direct counseling, group therapy, community outreach and prevention services to substance abusers and their families in the greater Long Beach area. These two programs are also designed to assist participants in overcoming personal barriers and obstacles to employment.

The current agreement ends on June 30, 2007. In order to continue to provide services, a new one-year agreement needs to be executed for the following:

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on May 8, 2007 to ensure there is no service interruption as the current agreement expires on June 30, 2007.
