TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on travel to the Conference of Mayors event in Key West, Florida.
DISCUSSION
On February 21, I traveled to Key West, FL to meet with the leadership of the Conference of Mayors.
There I met with leaders of other municipalities to discuss issues affecting local governments. The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. The primary roles of the Conference of Mayors are to -
. Promote the development of effective national urban/suburban policy;
. Strengthen federal-city relationships;
. Ensure that federal policy meets urban needs;
. provide mayors with leadership and management tools; and
. Create a forum in which mayors can share ideas and information.
At the conference I gave a presentation on Good Movement and its impacts on our communities. I have been appointed to lead a national task force through the Conference of Mayors to address this issue.
