TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report regarding trip to Austin, Texas to attend a demonstration of Hart InterCivic "Vote Tally System."

DISCUSSION
On December 20, 2006, I was invited by the City Clerk as Chair of the Elections Oversight Committee to attend a demonstration of Hart InterCivic "Vote Tally System" in Austin, Texas.

Hart InterCivic, as a part of its RFI response, has proposed a modern central count voting system that will greatly improve the elections in Long Beach in many ways. For example, the system will strengthen election security and vote counting accuracy. In addition, the proposed system will dramatically enhance transparency of the entire voting process.

As previously reported to the Mayor and City Council on December 12,2006, the City Clerk Department will be filing its recommendation to procure the Vote Tally System on the City Council agenda of January 9, 2006.

SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.

Respectfully Submitted,
