DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested to enter into an annual contract to furnish and deliver sports and athletic equipment to support ongoing recreational programs.

The bid was advertised on September 11, 2006, and 39 potential bidders specializing in sports and athletic equipment were notified of the bid opportunity; three are Minority-owned Business Enterprises (MBEs), five are Women-owned Business Enterprises (WBEs), four are Long Beach businesses, and one is a certified Small Business Enterprise (SBE). The bid document was made available from the Purchasing Division located on the Plaza Level of City Hall and the Division's website at www.lbpurchasinq.org. A bid announcement was also included in the Purchasing Division's weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which is sent to 32 local, minority and women's business groups. Bids were opened on September 27, 2006. Sport Supply Group, dba BSN Sports of Anaheim, CA, is the lowest responsible bidder.

This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Lori A. Conway on August 30,2006 and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on November 6, 2006.

TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action to adopt Specifications No. PA-00207 and award the contract concurrently is requested on November 14, 2006 to ensure that sports and athletic equipment is available for the upcoming recreational programs.

FISCAL IMPACT
