TITLE

DISCUSSION
The Los Angeles County Probation Department has provided funding for the Long
Beach Police Athletic League (PAL) programs through a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) since 2002.
 
The Los Angeles County Probation Department has offered the Police Department an
additional $50,000 for use during FY 06 to be reflected in a proposed fourth amendment
to the MOU. The funding will be used to reimburse PAL for the purchase of athletic
equipment, implementation of a summer school education assistance program and
sporting activities.
 
This matter was reviewed by Deputy City Attorney Richard F. Anthony on June 12,2006
and by Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on June 12, 2006.
 
TIMING CONSIDERATIONS
City Council action is requested on June 20, 2006 to expedite reimbursement to PAL for
funds expended.
 
FISCAL IMPACT
Proceed from the Los Angeles County Probation Department will be deposited in the
General Grants Fund (SR l20) and the Police Department (PD). An appropriation
increase is required.
 
SUGGESTED ACTION
Approve recommendation.
