DISCUSSION
City Council approval is being requested to enter into a contract for the purchase of three
six-wheel drive, model LT-9500 Dump Trucks. Additionally, it is requested that the City
Council approve the option to purchase one additional unit at the contracted price,
providing funds are available and an additional unit is required.

The Public Works Department, Fleet Services Bureau, has an immediate need to purchase
three dump trucks as part of the City’s multi-year vehicle replacement plan. One additional
dump truck is expected to be required during Fiscal Year 2007. The current purchase will
replace three diesel-powered dump trucks, ranging in age from 16 to 19 years. The
budgeted replacement cycle of dump trucks is 15 years.

The bid was advertised on May 6, 2006, and 33 potential bidders were notified of the bid
opportunity; three are Minority-owned Business Enterprises (MBEs), none are Womenowned
Business Enterprises (WBEs), and five are Long Beach businesses. The bid
document was made available from the Purchasing Division located on the Plaza Level of
City Hall and the Division’s website at www.Ibpurchasinlq.org. A bid announcement was
also included in the Purchasing Division’s weekly update of Open Bid Opportunities, which
is sent to 32 local, minority and women’s business groups. Peck Road Truck Center of
Whittier, CAI is the lowest responsible bidder.

This matter was reviewed by Senior Deputy City Attorney Donna F. Gwin on May 31, 2006
and Budget Management Officer David Wodynski on June 12,2006.
