TITLE
Recommendation to receive and file report on the American Public Transportation Authority's (APTA) Legislative Conference in
Washington, D.C., March 5 - 8, 2006.

DISCUSSION
March 5m through 8", I attended the American Public Transportation Authority's (APTA) Legislative Conference as a member of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTA).

I met with a number of our federal legislators, including: Senator Barbara Boxer, Congressmembers Henry Waxman, Juanita Millender-McDonald, and Diane Watson regarding transit security, funding for transportation improvements, truck inspection facilities for the 1-710, port security, and future funding of the highway trust fund.

The conference also included workshops on federal authorization and appropriations of the SAFETEA-LU bill that was signed by the President on August 10, 2005. SAFETEA-LU represents a hard-fought victory for the public transportation industry and is consistent with APTA's goals that include maintaining funding and expediting program delivery.

SUGGESTED ACTION
