TITLE
Recommendation to authorize City Attorney to pay the sum of $8,000 in full settlement of lawsuit entitled Guillermo Gonzalez vs. City of Long Beach.
DISCUSSION
This case involves a lawsuit which was filed as a result of an automobile accident which occurred on July 6,2004 in Long Beach. The Plaintiffs, were stopped at the intersection for the light when their Toyota pick-up truck was rear-ended by a City Refuse truck. As a result, the Plaintiffs sustained injuries which they treated for in the amount of $7,000.00. They also incurred property damage to their car.
During a court ordered mediation, the parties tentatively agreed to a full and complete settlement, inclusive of all costs and fees in the amount of $8,000.00.
The proposed settlement was presented to the Economic Development and Finance Committee on November 22, 2005 and was approved on that date. We therefore ask authority to pay the sum of $8,000.00 in full settlement of this claim against the City of Long Beach.
